My
photographic work centres on two main elements: Texture
and Serenity.
I love running my hand over the bark of a tree or through
the hot sand on the beach. I love feeling those textures
on my skin and for some reason, I love making photographs
of textures. I just like the word: Texture.
I enjoy the search for different textures and patterns.
The fun part of my work is finding ways of capturing
those textures. Photography is a visual art –
but that does not mean that it cannot appeal to the
other senses.
The other ingredient in my work is a sense of peace
and calmness: so many of these images give me that sense
of serenity. That sense comes when making each image
and also when viewing them now. I suppose that photography
is both work but also a sort of therapy for me.
I do not do any manipulation of my images: what you
see is what you get. I use slide film – mostly
35mm but with an increasing amount of medium format
work – because it gives me a cleaner and crisper
printed image. I find the discipline of using slide
is more of a challenge than negative film or digital.
I hope this sense of satisfaction transfers across to
my photographs. I hope you enjoy this site.
